Nathan is a Certified Athletic Therapist, CAT(C). He graduated out of Mount Royal University with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education majoring in Athletic Therapy. He grew up in the climbing community as a youth competitor and later branched out to coaching. Having sustained his fair share of injuries, Nathan has developed a strong empathy for those that are prevented from doing what they love, due to injury. So it’s Nathan’s mission to help you understand your pain or injury, and give you the appropriate treatment and rehab plan to regain control over your active lifestyle. Athletic Therapists are often known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. However, they are just as well trained in the clinical setting, because they are responsible for the full spectrum of care for those athletes. Athletic Therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist’s goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.

Dr. Mellis grew up just outside of Calgary, AB. After high school, she moved to Victoria, BC and completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology. Once she graduated, she uprooted her life and moved to San Jose, California to complete her Doctorate in Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic West.

Dr. Mellis’ chiropractic approach includes both traditional spinal manipulations as well as a heavy focus on the surrounding soft tissues and fascia. She utilises soft tissue techniques such as Graston Technique (IASTM), cupping and muscle/fascial release therapy all alongside her adjustments as rehab exercises. Her favourite part of her treatments is getting to know her patients, what their goals are and working as a team to get her patients back to where they want to be. She is passionate about helping and healing in a natural way.

In her spare time, Dr. Mellis can be found at the dog park with her husband and her two goldendoodles, Rover and Goose. She can also be found at home baking, painting and reading, outside hiking, biking, skiing and finally at her local yoga studio or climbing gym.
